If you have a serious emotional difficulty or developmental disability (mental retardation, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, or autism), and live within the counties of Sanilac, Lapeer, or St. Clair, your access to mental health services now begins with a phone call to:

The Thumb Mental Health Access System is designed to provide a coordinated, effective system to respond to the mental health needs of the Medicaid-insured or persons who are experiencing severe emotional difficulties and live in Huron, Lapeer, Sanilac or St. Clair counties.

The Access System is staffed by licensed mental health professionals who are available seven days a week, 24-hours a day, 365-days a year to respond to your emergency mental health needs. The Access System will provide direct resources and referral services for all covered members.

This unique program now offers you and your family direct access to behavioral mental health care through the centralized Thumb Area Access System. You and your family can access the system in a number of convenient ways:

  • Visit or call your local Community Mental Health funded program and you will be connected to the Access System.

  • Call the Access System Direct Line, a 24-hour, toll-free customer service line, 1-888-225-4447.

 

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM THE ACCESS SYSTEM:

The Access System Staff will:

  • Obtain your basic information, evaluate your clinical need, and determine if the need is routine or an emergency.

  • Provide a referral to an appropriate provider, using the Thumb Mental Health Access System's sophisticated computerized data base, which contains information about the region's providers.

  • Ensure that you receive a referral to a provider which meets your specific needs for specialty, geographic location, office hours, and any other requirements you may have. The system staff will always try to honor consumer choice when possible.

If at any time you are denied access to services, are displeased with the service provided or the referral you receive, you can contact the Customer Services Department at (810) 987-6911 or toll free 1 (888) 225-4447, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. to discuss your concerns.
