RESPITE AND FAMILY SUPPORT SERVICES

Andrea M. Schroeder, M.S.A.,

Program Supervisor

Lapeer County Community Mental Health staff can coordinate family focused services for persons with serious mental illness, serious emotional disturbance or developmental disabilities.  The goal of family support services is to assist the family in caring for a family member with one of these disabilities.  Services may include education and training as well as identifying strategies for successfully caring for or living with a person with disabilities.

Respite care services are a family support service that can assist in maintaining an individual with disabilities with their family by temporarily relieving the unpaid primary care giver.  Temporary care and supervision to ensure the safety and well-being of a family member can be intermittently coordinated several different ways.  By providing a break to the care giver they can continue to care for their family member at home.
