A Lapeer County Library Initiative

Project Goals and Objectives

Lapeer County Library's goal in the "Lapeer County Government On-line Project" is to help Lapeer County Government units mount identified local information on our community network, LapeerNet [now Lapeer County Information Depot].

We will accomplish this by working with and training other county entities in the organization and digital integration of community information resources. We plan to recruit six county government departments, agencies and/or commissions for web site development. We will secure contracted services for World Wide Web site development workshops and follow-up training and on-going individual training and support for a 50 week period The responsibilities of this project facilitator will include:

Our second objective is to mount appropriate software on selected county computers and server to assist in World Wide Web navigation, HTML authoring and web site maintenance. We will purchase server software to accommodate on-line and video conferences, listserv and other software identified as necessary to the success of the project. We plan to provide minimum hardware standards to participating entities to ensure their computers are ready to receive client software. Once we have installed the purchased server software, we will hold an Internet "barn raising" to mount applicable client software on selected computers within participating entities. We will go to each site and load everything they need on their computers in a single session that will allow them to participate in this project.

To assure that employees within the County structure know what we are accomplishing, and to inform the public of this new method of accessing local information, we will develop promotional and informational presentations in a variety of formats to enhance community penetration.

Existing presentation equipment will be upgraded for multimedia production and for informational community presentations. Including: digital camera, LCD projector, PCI video board for video editing, memory upgrades and other equipment deemed necessary.

We will develop and implement a marketing strategy for promotion and showing of presentation materials. An ad hoc committee will be appointed including the Lapeer County Library Assistant Director, members from the participating county entities, selected community stakeholders to determine the best approach. We will establish and implement a strategic marketing plan. Contracted services will be secured to produce promotional and informational presentation showcasing Lapeer County Government information available for distribution. These will include:
