Lapeer County Government On-Line

Community Information Center Development

Funded through a Library Services and Construction Act

Title I Grant: 1997

A Lapeer County Library Initiative

Lapeer County Library has long recognized that citizen access of local government information is often difficult because of its distributive nature. The library has worked closely, for many years, with other county departments and administrative offices. When the opportunity arose to develop community information through LSCA funding, the library approached the commissioners, the administrator, and department heads with the concept of a cooperative project. They were enthusiastic and anxious to proceed. We have provided a variety of documentation here that is an explanation of what we did and how we did it. We are certain that we have produced an effective and workable model for collecting content, training users, managing information and providing access to that information in a sustainable format. We appreciate your comments.

Explanation of Project Activities: The Lapeer County Library will work with and train recruited county departments, agencies and/or commissions in Web site development and maintenance and will mount their information on our community networking server housed in the Library. We will enhance our server to allow for interactive communication and help the county entities mount applicable client software on their computers. The Library will prepare promotional and information presentations in a variety of formats to inform the residents of Lapeer County and outside parties of our enhanced information delivery services.
